AFL9s opportunity for Carine Junior Football Club

An opportunity presents itself for boys and girls in Year 6, 7 and 8 to participate in an AFL9s competition in the first week of the school holidays.

The Claremont Football Club in conjunction with the WESTSTAR Football Academy are excited to deliver their Claremont AFL 9’s Youth Carnival in the July School Holidays at Claremont Oval.

AFL 9’s is a fast, free-flowing game that involves 9 players on each team playing on a smaller oval. The game focuses on skills, footy IQ and is non-contact which promotes skill execution. With the amount of footy that we’ve missed already in 2020, this will be the perfect way to finally kick off the new season!

The Carnival will be divided into three competitions:

  • Year 6 – Wednesday 8 July

  • Year 7 – Thursday 9 July

  • Year 8 – Friday 10 July

Team registration fees will be $360 ($30 per player) and this will be subsidised by the Club. Players are asked to pay $10 towards the registration fee, payable in cash on the day to the coach.

12 players per team are recommended to allow each player adequate rest whilst still encouraging maximise participation.

Following the carnival, the coaches of each participating team will be invited to two coaching workshops in August:

  1. Monday 24th August @ Claremont Football Club (6.45pm – 9.00pm)
    Skill Development & Game Sense
Kicking Development – Technique, decision making & execution under pressure (Sam Cousens)
Introduction to Match Simulation Training (Kepler Bradley)

  2. Monday 31st August @ Claremont Football Club (6.45pm – 9.00pm)
    Skill Development & Contest Work
Ball Handling – Maximum touch training drills (Sam Cousens)
Contest Work – Groundball techniques & Fwd/Def body positioning (Alex Silvagni)

A Claremont All-Star team will be selected for each competition and the three winning teams will be invited to the Claremont Football Club to participate in a coaching masterclass delivered by Claremont Football Club senior players and the WESTSTAR Football Academy.

The nominated coach for each team doesn’t have to be experienced in AFL9s - the organisers will have experienced staff umpiring on the day who will also help coach the boys and girls on the field so they are receiving live feedback.

If you’re interested in participating, please submit your expression of interest through the form below. Preference will be given to financial members and if more than 12 names are received by the closing date, names will be chosen at random. A parent who volunteers to coach the team will have their child included.

Please express interest by Thursday 25 June.
