The last few weeks have been busy behind the scenes and I thought it was time for another update to our members and supporters.
The new lighting has been energised and the difference is remarkable. Thanks must go to the City of Stirling for making this possible, and their hard work getting this project brought forward and finalised. While there is still some work to be completed we can now use all the available space at Beach Road. Keep your eyes open for some future night fixtures and functions.
Round 1 has been confirmed as kicking off in the last weekend of the school holidays, starting with the Girls competition on Friday 17 July and the Boys and Auskick on Sunday 19 July. While fixtures are yet to be released, we expect the official home and away season to be 11 rounds inclusive of a finals round for Youth (Year 7 and over, regardless of place on the ladder). This means every child, Year 3 to 12, will play 11 fixtured games, however the season extends to 13 games with intra and inter club scratch matches given the ‘green light’. Some Youth coaches are in the process of organising these and the Club is looking at avenues for the younger age groups to play some scratch matches down at Carine in the coming weeks. There is also an AFL9s carnival in the first week of the school holidays, and we hope to have representation in Year 6, 7 and 8.
Auskick registrations have re-opened and have been flooding in, 157 plus and growing. Auskick Coordinator, Mel Parkinson, will certainly have her hands full this season - if anyone can lend a hand please reach out to her at auskick@carinefooty.com.au. Our Auskickers have a great season in store and we’ve already seen our Pre-Primary group ‘training’ with the 18s, thanks to Michael Farmer and the boys (Year 1 boys and girls have their turn this week and Year 2 the following week).
Now that the season is confirmed and some of the COVID-19 restrictions have been eased, the Club (in consultation with coaches) can start to establish or finalise teams. While registrations are still open, the Club is in a position to confirm final numbers for each team and as such there can be a move away from squad training to team training. The Club does encourage continued training in year groups where possible.
The fee structure for 2020 has been discussed between presidents of all junior football clubs. While it may sound like the season being shorter should cost less money, in fact the opposite may well be true. The Club will have extra expenses this season including extra cleaning and sanitising, and our usual expenses of new footballs, hire of the Clubrooms and so on. To date, the Club has outlaid in excess of $30,000 with an estimated budget of $60,000 to get us to Round 1. Registration numbers are down across all of community football, and we must acknowledge that some of our usual revenue generating activities (e.g. various events to celebrate our 40th anniversary), are unlikely to go ahead. Unfortunately, there are a lot of junior football clubs that will require financial assistance to get through this season and survive.
The Carine Junior Football Club is very fortunate and at the end of the season, as soon as we know our financial position, I hope to announce that fees will be reduced for the 2021 season. In the meantime, I thank you for your ongoing support of our Club and thank those parents who have contacted me personally to discuss season 2020. Compared to other parts of Australia, we are in a terrific position with respect to COVID-19, and while it has been an unsettling time, it’s wonderful that we are able to return to junior sport. As the restrictions ease, I hope to bring you more news of ways we can bring our members and their families together.

Frequently asked questions
Our previously published FAQs are included again here and updated as appropriate.
When will we find out about fixtures?
Fixtures are not usually confirmed until a few days prior to the start of the competition. WAFC staff have now returned to work, and they will be working with volunteers to reactivate the competition.
When will the girls competition start?
Friday 17 July.
How long will the season be?
The WAFC has been working with local councils to extend the season. At this stage, the final games are expected to be the weekend of 25, 26 and 27 September (the end of Term 3, 2020).
What do I get for my membership in 2020?
It’s our 40th anniversary year, and we’ve arranged a commemorative Club training cap for every player, from Pre-Primary through to Year 12. You’ll receive your cap through your team manager during Round 1. All members will receive tickets for the Subiaco Football Club raffle, and in addition to the usual inclusions we’re also planning some small social events at the Clubrooms for each team once the season is underway, which will be covered by the Carine Junior Football Club.
We’re confident of a really positve footy season for all members in 2020, both on and off the field and planning for maximum value from your 2020 membership. Most of our costs to deliver a season remain unchanged or have increased, but we are determined to consider a reduction in fees for 2021. In summary, our fees will remain at $180 (Auskick), $200 (Girls), and $230 (Junior and Youth) for 2020.
I used the Pay Later function. When should I pay?
Now we know we have a season, it’s time to pay your 2020 registration fees. Please search your Inbox for an email from SportsTG with the subject line ‘payment required’ and click on the link to finalise your payment (please do not pay into our bank account). We will send a reminder to all members who have used Pay Later and ask that all payments are finalised well prior to Round 1. We will be enforcing the ‘no pay, no play’ policy.
My financial circumstances have changed, what can I do?
We acknowledge that some families may be facing changed economic circumstances. If you have not already paid your fees, you may want to check if you are now eligible for KidSport, which will fund up to $150 towards your registration fees. If you are eligible, please obtain the voucher BEFORE you finalise your registration payment, and contact our Treasurer, Jeffrey Cohen, treasurer@carinefooty.com.au so we can charge you the correct amount.
It’s important to us that every child who wants to play junior football can do so this year. If you would like to discuss your financial circumstances in confidence, please contact the Club President, Brad Hearn, on 0418 937 657 or email president@carinefooty.com.au.
When will teams lists be announced?
Our coaching subcommittee is meeting regularly and will finalise teams (if they are not already finalised) as soon as possible. We anticipate further registrations in the lead up to the season commencing. If you know someone interested in joining our Club, please ask them to refer to our website for more information and contact the relevant committee member. We have capacity in the following year levels - Auskick (Pre-Primary to Year 2), Year 3, Year 3/4 Girls, Year 4, Year 7/8 Girls and Year 9,
How can I organise socks, shorts and other merchandise items?
If you ordered merchandise as part of registration, our Merchandise Coordinator, Jan Cater, will be in contact with you to arrange collection (if you used Pay Later, please pay your invoice so we can distribute your merchandise). If you’re looking for merchandise now, please head to our Merchandise Page and get in touch with Jan about your needs. We have experienced an interruption in our supply chain and there may be a small delay on some orders.
It’s our 40th anniversary and we have arranged a commemorative training cap for all players, Pre-Primary through to Year 12. These will be delivered through Team Managers in Round 1.
Players entering Year 3 in 2020 would ordinarily receive a training guernsey, but the committee has decided to hold back on these and issue them in 2021 instead (as Year 4s), together with the 2021 Year 3 cohort. All NEW players Year 4 and up ordinarily receive a Club training guernsey and Jan will be in touch with you to provide as many as we can within existing stock.
Players entering Year 7 in 2020 and all NEW players Year 8 and above receive a Club polo as part of membership. Jan will be in touch with you all about your polo (there may be a small delay for some).
We will be prioritising new members for training guernseys and Club polos at this time. If members are seeking a new Club polo or training guernsey, or want to sell what they have, we encourage you to make use of our pre-loved unforms and merchandise Facebook Group.
When will Auskick start and what will it look like?
Auskick will commence on Sunday 19 July, in line with Round 1. The committee is currently modelling staggered sessions to cater for Phase 3 restrictions on gatherings. Auskick Coordinator, Mel Parkinson, will be in direct contact with all registered players throughout the coming weeks.
