Carine Junior Football Club welcomes Michael Farmer as Head Coach

Michael Farmer announced as Head Coach for the Carine Junior Football Club in 2020

At the Carine Junior Football Club, we are always looking to develop our coaches and players to be the best that they can be.  To that end, we are thrilled to announce the return of Michael Farmer to our Club for the 2020 season, in a new role as Head Coach.

Michael, or ‘Farms’ as he is known, has a wealth of football knowledge.  He is currently the Football Manager at the Subiaco Football Club, previously held the position of Talent Manager and has worked in player development for many years.

Michael, together with Brad Hearn, President share the goal that all players at the Club have the best chance to play in a structured and well-rounded environment; one that gives them complete access to a talent program and the pathway to be able to play at their highest level, whether that be with the WAFL (and beyond) or with their chosen senior amateur club.

“We have a fantastic opportunity in 2020 to expose our youth players to a talent development system and the processes involved in that system, and we’re delighted to have Farms on board with us again in 2020,” Hearn said.

“Of course it goes without saying, that whether you’re aiming for the stars or continuing community football, we want our players to have an enjoyable experience and stay with the game and the Carine Junior Football Club.”

Farmer’s vision for the Club is that players will experience quality feedback and development reports from coaches.  Through his role as the Club’s most senior coach, players will be exposed to an understanding of player movement between top sides and reserve sides and the idea of playing a role-driven team game, providing every player with the opportunity to become a more rounded and multi-dimensional footballer.

“In 2020, we will be looking at development of our Youth coaches (Year 7 through to the 18s).  Our objective is to deliver the same messaging and instruction to all players.  While the game plan isn't as important at this level, the style we play is essential to the continued development of our players and our coaches,” Farmer said.

“Ideally, what we would like to achieve in the future is to see many of our players and coaches enter development squads and Colts teams in the WAFL.  Through the WAFL Talent System, we have the opportunity to link in with Subiaco and their talent program to give our players and coaches exposure to higher levels of learning and development in their football.”

The Carine Junior Football Club is also pleased to announce Farmer will be joined by Subiaco League players Justin Joyce and Rowen Powell as assistant coaches for the 18s.  Justin hails from the Carine Junior Football Club and was also a premiership player with the Hamersley Carine Amateur Football Club prior to joining Subiaco.  Rowen played junior football in Broome before joining the Claremont Colts (winning a premiership) and was picked up in the 2014 rookie draft by the West Coast Eagles.

“Justin and Rowen are outstanding footballers, two-time premiership players with the Subiaco Football Club side and will be a valuable addition to our program,” said Farmer.

Perhaps the most important endorsement of Farmer’s appointment come from the players themselves.  2019 18s captain Corey Bellouard said “He didn't always take it too seriously and had fun with us, but we could see how passionate he was and how much he wanted us to improve and win. The amount everyone improved this year was amazing- I think Farms should take a lot of credit for that.  The way he coached us in training and on game day was great.  He was always doing everything he could to be the best coach for us."  Jordan Lane echoed Corey’s sentiments, saying “He bought us together as a team and explained a lot of really good stuff - he made us smarter footy players.”  Of course, behind every good coach is a good team manager, and 18s team manager Karen South was quick to say that Farmer joining the Club was one of the best things to happen for the Carine Junior Football Club.  “The way he interacted with the boys was exactly what they needed.  I only hope my younger son also has the opportunity to benefit from his coaching in 2021,’ she said.

The Carine Junior Football Club welcomes ‘Farms’ to this new role in season 2020. We are all looking forward to the further development and success of the Carine Junior Football Club.
