While last Sunday was the official District Dreaming round, this Sunday saw our Year 8 team celebrate at home, with a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony, dance and didgeridoo, in partnership with Wembley Downs. Wembley Downs wore Indigenous jerseys for the game and looked absolutely fantastic.
It was a moving occasion with Len Yarran conducting a smoking ceremony and addressing the boys from both teams. Shane Garlett delivered the Welcome to Country in Noongar and English and then the didgeridoo was played (with boomerangs clapping) while a traditional dance was performed in front of the boys.
Len also talked about this year's NAIDOC theme because of her we can and reminded all the boys to be thankful to their mothers, grandmothers and aunties for all they do for them.
Thank you to Wembley Downs Junior Football Club who partnered with us for this event, the Subiaco District and to everyone who attended today, especially Len, Shane and team. They took the time to catch up with our Year 6 boys afterwards too, which we very much appreciated.
