It was an exciting afternoon for our Junior and Youth Girls teams yesterday, with Simon Quayle, coach of the Subiaco Women's team joining us at Beach Road for a special training session.
Simon was joined by AFLW players Lara Filocamo and Georgie Parker who are both playing with Subi this winter, and Eliza-Jane Eady, Ashtyn Cowie, Anthea Todman, Kia Buckley and Erin Vincensoni.
Carine Junior Football Club Girls Football Coordinator was really pleased with the turnout of girls and parents. "Our girls were treated to the Subi coach and players running the training sessions, imparting a wealth of knowledge and experience. I think the message to take away from the women is to try as many sports as you can, and take each and every opportunity," said Lizzie Barnes.
Georgie Parker will be known by some as a former Hockeyroo, making the switch to women's football with Collingwood in 2017. Lara Filocamo was a soccer player and Eliza-Jane played netball - many of our girls are combining their love of footy with other sports and activities and the Friday evening competition certainly supports that.
Thank you sincerely to Simon and the Subi players for coming along and sticking around afterwards to sign autographs for the girls and give away some merchandise. Thanks also to Lizzie Barnes and the girls coaches for such a great afternoon. We're sure we will see some of our Carine girls in Subiaco footy jumpers in the years to come.
