On the weekend of Friday 15 and Sunday 17 July, we celebrated the NAIDOC Round and encouraged everyone to join in the celebrations at home or away.
We kicked things off on the Wednesday night with our girls coming together to share a meal, make bracelets and have a yarn about Aboriginal history, culture and language with Naomi Garlett. We started the decoration of our commemorative football too, and we invited everyone to join us for our games on Friday evening and then at the Clubrooms between 5.45 and 8.45pm and on Sunday between 9.30 and 11.00am to contribute. Our Year 7/8 Girls Derby featured Jada doing an acknowledgement to country before the game commenced.
Teams playing at home on Sunday were provided with some words about NAIDOC for players to read prior to the game, to celebrate the talent and significant contribution Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have made, and are still making, to the history and development of Australian Rules Football.
Thanks to Paul Valentino, Girls Football Coordinator, and Jada's mum Naomi Garlett, for this wonderful celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. Next step - an Indigenous guernsey for season 2023.
