Over the past two seasons, the Carine Junior Football Club has benefitted enormously from the expert coaching of Michael Farmer, both for our 18s and to guide us in coaching development for all players. As the previous Talent Manager and Football Manager with the Subiaco Football Club, our link with ‘Farms’ has exposed our coaches and players with high level structures and coaching, whether they be aiming for the WAFL or wanting to continue to enjoy community football.
Through his work with our Club, it was inevitable that Michael himself would also continue to be noticed. He was appointed senior coach of the Subiaco Women for season 2021, and commenced the year with the full intention to coach both Subi and our 18s. Unfortunately, fixturing clashes have meant he will be unavailable for almost half of the season for our Club and has made the difficult decision to step away from the direct coaching role. Fortunately, our 18s are ably supported at this time by assistant coaches, Luke Richardson and Paul Robinson, and Michael will continue to provide direct coaching on Tuesdays for the coming weeks and play a consultant role for season 2021.
I want to assure parents and players that since Michael informed us of his commitments with the Subiaco Women we have been working tirelessly with our internal Football Department to ensure our 18s can continue to access high quality coaching and a seamless start to season 2021. While we are not in a position to announce our full coaching line up just yet, the Club expects to be able to make a formal announcement in the coming days.
It is important to realise that Michael Farmer’s appointment to the Club in 2019 was to a role that involved much more than coaching the Year 11/12 cohort of boys. Michael’s role as Head Coach/Development Manager was part of a strategic plan to better the Club’s coaching approach in general, and ensure that development across all ages was consistent and of the highest level.
With that goal still of utmost importance to the Club, we have been actively interviewing suitable candidates from not only within, but external to the Club. All applicants thus far have been of the highest calibre, making the decision process extremely difficult.
We are pleased to announce that while Michael will be stepping away as Head Coach of the 18s, his services to further coach development will continue. Michael is a valuable asset to the Carine Junior Football Club and we are delighted that his connection with our Club will continue.
I look forward to bringing you news of our 2021 coaches for Junior and Youth boys and girls in the coming days.
