We’re excited to announce our new Carine Junior Football Club logo and guernsey design, with the newest ‘cat’ in town. From a tame little kitty in 1981, to a fierce tiger, to today’s strong graphic cat – we’ve modernised our logo and also our guernseys, returning to our original sky blue and dark navy with a dash of white. Take a look below, and then read on for the whole story…
In 1980, the Stirling City Council had developed the Carine Open Space from former swamp land and laid the foundations of a football oval. At that time, new housing developments in the Carine, Duncraig and Karrinyup area saw mainly new families shift into these areas and were forced to take their sons to play junior football with the surrounding Sorrento, Northern Districts, North Beach, Warwick and Whitford junior clubs.
The founding members of the Carine Junior Football Club saw the opportunity to utilise this new sporting facility and with the Carine Teeball Club rapidly expanding, sought to capitalise on the growth of local junior sport. The first official recorded meeting of the Carine Junior Football Club was held on 16 February, 1981 at Poynter Primary school with Mal Purcell, President and Barry Dedman, Vice President. The Carine Junior Football Club as we know it, commenced that very year, with 100 registrations and five teams.
As the Club has evolved, so has our brand. Our original guernseys were knitted, sky blue with dark navy hoops, and the boys wore navy shorts. The first Club logo featured a somewhat serious young cat which grew into something a little more fierce in 1993, with the guernsey featuring a cat for the first time, updated slightly in 1998. A new brand emerged in time for the Club’s 25th anniversary, with the logo we know today, and the introduction of sky blue and black guernseys featuring a roaring tiger, the most ferocious of the ‘cat’ family. While many of our Youth players are familiar with the current guernsey, sadly our juniors have been playing with guernseys featuring a cat that’s much older than them.
The Club’s anniversary of 40 years of junior football fell in 2020, a very difficulty year for everyone. Plans for our Community Day and celebratory Gala Dinner were shelved as we responded to the worldwide pandemic. We were fortunate in Western Australia that a junior football season did eventuate, and it was ultimately a very successful year for our Club.
We have evolved even more as a Club in the past few years, with the introduction and growth of female football, new Clubrooms, 100 Lux lighting and our membership numbers in 2021 looking like the highest in the Club’s history. It’s time for the Club to reinvest in our members, and plans were announced at the 2020 AGM to replenish our tired old guernseys, from Auskick through to Year 12, with contemporary branding reflective of our strong, modern Club.
With an impressive new cat as our logo, you’ll also see some changes to team names in 2021. We are the Carine Cats, so every team will be known as such, with individual teams allocated a colour (e.g. Carine Cats Black). This is consistent with many other clubs, and will ensure our brand is not confused with other members of the cat family.
The first time you’ll see our new branding in 2021 will be on our navy Auskick t-shirts, set for distribution on Auskick Allocation Day, Sunday 18 April. Our new guernseys will arrive in time for the start of the 2021 season - we can’t wait to see our players in our new guernseys.
