At the Clubs WA Industry Awards of Excellence, held on Saturday night at Crown Perth, our very own Carine Junior Football Club walked away with a win for volunteers in junior sport.
The Most Improved Club (also known as the President’s Award) recognises a small club that has made the most improvements throughout 2018 on a limited budget. Judges were looking to see clubs that had improved their financial position, membership and club governance procedures.
‘Our membership continues to grow, and in 2018 we also fielded four female teams, alongside Auskick, and our Junior and Youth teams,’ said Brad Hearn, President.
‘We were awarded GOLD status as part of the AFL Community Club Program in 2018, recognition of the Club’s excellence in administration and governance. Financial growth, a new constitution and strategic plan, and a move into the new $3.14M Carine Clubrooms on Beach Road contributed to a highly successful year for the Carine Junior Football Club. We finished the season with a couple of premiership flags too, with numerous players also selected in various State teams and development squads.’
‘I’d like to acknowledge the leadership of Damon Lonnie, Club President, during the past four years and the dedicated and hard-working volunteer committee of the Carine Junior Football Club’.
While the Carine Junior Football Club walked away with the prize in this category, they were finalists in two other categories open to small clubs – the Club of the Year and the Marketing Award.
It was a highly successful night for our Club and Brad was delighted with the recognition, ‘As a junior sporting club with a 100% volunteer committee, we are really proud of what we have achieved in recent years. It’s a great win for junior football and the icing on the cake for us, confirming what we already know - that the Carine Junior Football Club is the ‘club of choice’ in our local community.’
