Youth Trophy Presentations - Sunday 18 September 2022

The annual Youth Trophy Presentations are an event to celebrate a year of achievement and improvement and to recognise outstanding performances.  Individual trophies are awarded for all teams Year 7 and up, with the President's Trophy presented to the female and male player who poll the most votes in the Club.  At this event, players achieving the milestones of 50 and 100 games are presented with a commemorative medal and a number of important Club awards are announced.

Our Club continues to grow, both in membership and team numbers and this year we continued the recent tradition of holding the awards at the Clubrooms, from 3.00pm. Our Year 11/12 and Club awards were held from 7.00pm and live streamed on Facebook (you can watch it here). Players and parents attended for the awards at their nominated timeslot and enjoyed a sausage sizzle afterwards.

The coach of each team provided a summary of the season, thanking the many parents and volunteers that contribute to the success of each team, and presented milestone game medals and the individual awards. Coaches Justin Barram, Year 9/10, Luke Richardson, Year 11/12 League, and Campbell Herley, Year 11/12 Youth Girls were also delighted to present their Premiership pennants to Vice-Presidents Mel Parkinson and Jayd Holmes, having been victorious in grand final games on Sunday 11 September. Paul Valentino, Year 7/8 Blue, Brad Hearn, Year 8 Black, and Paul Neale, Year 9 also presented their R/U Premiership pennants to the Club - looks like our wall is going to get crowded, folks!

Our milestone medallists are listed below with the individual award winners. Of note, we announced the Year 6 players who had achieved 50 games with the club but weren’t in attendance at the Youth Trophy Presentations and Mitchell Lonnie who received a rare 150 game medal, having played 150 games of AFL in his junior playing career - well done Mitchell.

The President’s Trophies are presented to the male and female players who poll the highest number of votes in the Club. Harlon Egan, Year 8 Black, polled the most votes overall in the Sunday competition and was presented with the President’s Trophy for the boys - congratulations Harlon. The female President’s Trophy was a tie between Angel-Lee Rutherford and Shanti Bardsley, Year 7/8 Black. Well done to you all.

John Keeley, President of the Hamersley Carine Amateur Football Club talked about his time as a junior at the Club and the success of the senior Club. He presented the HCAFC Awards for the highest polling players in the oldest age group (i.e. the highest polling Year 12 boy and girl in the Year 11/12 competitions). Congratulations to Jonah Okines and Gem Colavecchio. We sincerely hope you continue with your football beyond Year 12, hopefully with the Hamersley Carine Amateur Football Club in 2023.

We believe we may have had a record number of Life Members joining us this year, including Phil Cousins, Barry Dedman, Ken Rakin, Graham McEwan, Geoff Hampton, Alan Thomas, Rowan Roberts, Lisa Henderson and our 2021 Life Members, Damon Lonnie and Brett Wills. They were on hand to support the award recipients, and induct our newest Life Member, Greg Webster at the conclusion of the evening.

The Barry Dedman/Phil Cousins Volunteer of the Year award, named in honour of two of our Life Members, was awarded to Paul Valentino. Congratulations to Paul who has been a wonderful ambassador for not only girls football but the Carine Junior Football Club as a whole. Worthy finalists included Brad Hearn and Richard Birch and we acknowledge their contributions to the Club in 2022.

It was an honour to present Junior Life Membership pins to four players who have all played 125 games of junior football for the Carine Junior Football Club, Kade Taylor, Jonah Okines, Tom Kazandzis and Kyan Webster. Acknowledging that playing for one club throughout junior football is significant, we also introduced a new award this year, the ONE CLUB award and were delighted to present a Carine Junior Football Club keyring to our departing Year 12 boys who have played many years with our club. We also asked the 2021 players to join us and were pleased that a number returned to receive their award.

Life Membership is a very special category of membership of our Club and we were very pleased to finally present Greg Webster with his pin. Brett Wills, Life Member recipient of 2021, spoke about Greg’s contribution to the Carine Junior Football Club over 20 years and four sons that have played junior football with Carine. What made the evening all the more special is that Greg’s son Kyan was also a recipient of his Junior Life Membership pin - what a wonderful moment to have both father and son presented with awards on the same evening.
