The Carine and Sorrento Duncraig Junior Football Clubs are excited to announce an agreement to support merged teams within the Year 11 and 12 (18s) Sunday competition over the next three seasons.
The 18s competition sees players enter their final years of junior football before the opportunity to continue playing community football with a senior club. These are critical years in personal and football development, with young people often balancing multiple commitments. Both clubs acknowledge this can result in a drop in player numbers, teams struggling to field numbers on a weekly basis and diminished enjoyment of the game.
The agreement reached between the two junior clubs has been carefully considered over a number of months. It will ensure that a sustainable, viable and competitive local competition is delivered with the continued focus on player development to support eventual transition to Colts football. The Hamersley Carine Amateur Football Club has partnered with us through this process, and we thank Club President, John Keeley and team, for their support. Hamersley Carine have made a commitment to both coaching and financial support over the next three years.
The following provides an outline of the main elements of the agreement:
Players will register with their current junior football club in 2023
Teams will play in a custom Hamersley Carine Amateur Football Club guernsey, displaying both Carine and Sorrento Duncraig Junior Football Club logos
The team will be known as Carine Sorrento (aka the Hawks, which is the emblem of the Hamersley Carine Amateur Football Club)
Training grounds will be split evenly on Tuesdays and Thursdays utilising both Seacrest Reserve and Carine (Beach Road).
Home games will also be evenly split in both locations.
Independent senior coach to be appointed with applications considered by representatives from both Carine and Sorrento Duncraig Junior Football Clubs.
Volunteers appointed from both Clubs to assist with the running of all teams.
Registrations for the 2023 season will open soon for returning players only. Please look out for further correspondence from both Clubs about this and an invitation for parents and players to meet with the Hamersley Carine Amateur Football Club in January.
Mel Parkinson, Club President and Michelle Richardson, President, Sorrento Duncraig Junior Football Club shared their delight with the merger, the development potential and pathway it creates for these young men as they transition through their final years of the junior competition.
