The annual Youth Trophy Presentations are an event to celebrate a year of achievement and improvement and to recognise outstanding performances. Individual trophies are awarded for all teams Year 7 and up, with the President's Trophy presented to the female and male player who poll the most votes in the Club. At this event, players achieving the milestones of 50 and 100 games are presented with a commemorative medal and a number of important Club awards are announced.
Our Club continues to grow, both in membership and team numbers and this year we replicated last year’s event by holding it at the Clubrooms, from 3.00pm, with our Club awards at the end. Players and parents attended for the awards at their nominated timeslot and enjoyed a sausage sizzle afterwards.
The coach of each team provided a summary of the season, thanking the many parents and volunteers that contribute to the success of each team, and presented 50 and 100 game medals and the individual awards. Coaches Justin Barram, Year 7/8, Paul Neale, Year 8, and Jack Mayo, 18s League were also delighted to present their Premiership pennants to President Brad Hearn, having been victorious in grand final games on Sunday 12 September. Craig Groth, Year 10 Carine/Stirling and Paul Robinson, 18s Reserves, also presented their R/U Premiership pennants to the Club - looks like our wall is going to get crowded, folks!
In 2020 we introduced a second President’s Trophy to cater for the female competition and this year we congratulated Ruby Hobbs, Year 9/10 on winning this award. It was terrific having former Carine Junior Football Club player and AFLW Eagles draftee, Charlie Thomas, on hand to assist with the presentation of the female awards and the President’s Trophy - we can’t wait to see you in action next year, Charlie .
James Taseff, Year 7 Black, polled the most votes overall in the Sunday competition and was presented with the President’s Trophy for the boys - congratulations James.
We were pleased that a significant number of Life Members could join us again this year, including Phil Cousins, Barry Dedman, Geoff Hampton, Alan Thomas and our 2020 Life Member, Lisa Henderson. They were on hand to support the award recipients and several joined us from 3.00pm, buoyed by the growing popularity of female football. We also thank Stirling President Dom Caccamo and Year 9/10 Carine/Kingsway coach Campbell Jones for joining us for the awards, a great reflection of the partnerships we have established this year with other clubs.
John Keeley, President of the Hamersley Carine Amateur Football Club presented not one, but TWO HCAFC Awards for the highest polling players in the oldest age groups. Earlier in the afternoon, John was joined by Meagan Hedley, captain of the inaugural HCAFC Women’s team, to present the HCAFC Award to Brooke Perry, Year 10. Meagan spoke about her passion for the game and the great friendships she has developed with her team mates on and off the field. The link between the two clubs is stronger than ever, with Justin Barram as coach of the Women and the Year 7/8 Girls and Mel Parkinson as team manager (in addition to Auskick Coordinator and Year 5/6 coach for the Carine Junior Football Club). Later in the evening John was joined by former Carine Junior Football Club player and 2021 Colts captain, Nic Mayo, to present the HCAFC Award for the Year 12 player polling the highest number of votes. Congratulations to Xavier Lloyd, who was also awarded the Fairest and Best for the Metro North Year 11/12 Reserves competition recently. Congratulations Xavier.
On the Friday evening before, at the Coaches and Team Managers’ ‘thank you’ evening, a record number of very worthy nominees for the Carine Junior Club Volunteer of the Year were announced by Brad Hearn, President:
Justin Barram, Year 7/8 Youth Girls coach
Mel Parkinson, Auskick Coordinator and Year 5/6 Junior Girls Coach
Paul Neale, Year 8 coach
Craig Groth Year 10 Carine/Stirling coach and Property Manager
Paul Valentino, Year 5/6 Junior Girls coach and Girls Football Coordinator
Jan Cater, Team Managers’ and Merchandise Coordinator
Ann Lord, Communications Officer and Secretary
(Brad was also nominated but he didn’t mention himself on Friday evening).
The Barry Dedman/Phil Cousins Volunteer of the Year award, named in honour of two of our Life Members, was awarded to joint winners - Mel Parkinson and Craig Groth. Congratulations to you both - very worthy winners and great contributors to our Club over a number of years. We caught up with Craig the day after the awards (he sneaked home before the big announcement).
To close out the evening, we were delighted to present a Junior Life Membership pin to Ryan Evans from our 18s. Ryan and Samuel Leitch (who was unable to attend) are two players who have played 125+ games with the Carine Junior Football Club. Life Memberships were then awarded to two men who have contributed significantly to our Club over many years - Brett Wills and Damon Lonnie. Brett gave a heartfelt speech about what the Club has meant to him - we thank you sincerely Brett for everything you have done and look forward to your continued contribution to supporting our coaches in season 2022. Sadly, the closed borders meant that Damon Lonnie could not join us from Melbourne. His wife Wendy, read a speech on Damon’s behalf and he was able to join us via FaceTime. We Livestreamed the last part of the Youth Trophy Presentations via Facebook, including our Life Member acceptance speeches - you can catch them here if you weren’t able to join us.
