The annual Youth Trophy Presentation Evening is a night to celebrate a year of achievement and improvement and to recognise outstanding performances. Individual trophies are awarded for all teams Year 7 and up, with the President's Trophy presented to the player who polls the most votes in the Club. At this event, players achieving the milestones of 50, 100 and 150 games are presented with a commemorative medal and a number of important Club awards are announced.
Our Club has grown, both in membership and team numbers and so this year we decided to do things a little differently and hosted the event at the Clubrooms, team by team, from 3.00pm, with our Club awards at the end. Players and parents attended for the awards at their nominated timeslot and enjoyed a sausage sizzle afterwards.
The coach of each team provided a summary of the season, thanking the many parents and volunteers that contribute to the success of each team, and presented 50 and 100 game medals and the individual awards. Coaches Paul Neale, Year 7 Cats, Troy Baldwinson, Year 9 Cats, and Brett Wills, Year 10 Cats were also delighted to present their Premiers pennants to President Brad Hearn, having been victorious in grand final games on Monday 28 September. Look out for them on the wall next season, right next to our framed guernseys.
In 2020 we introduced a second President’s Trophy to cater for the female competition and congratulate Tabitha Rewell, Year 9/10 Cats on winning this inagural award. Cooper Stevens, Year 7 Cats, polled the most votes overall in the Sunday competition - congratulations also to Cooper for winning the President’s Trophy for the boys.
We were pleased that a significant number of Life Members could join us again this year, including Phil Cousins, Barry Dedman, Ken Rankin, Fred Davenport and Alan Thomas. They were on hand to present Junior Life Membership pins to six outstanding young men who have played 125+ games for the Carine Junior Football Club - Nick Italiano, Jordan Jury, Riley Pretty, Jordan King, Corey Bellouard and Lachlan Henderson. They also presented our newest Life Member, Lisa Henderson, with her Life Membership pin. John Keeley (joined by Brendon Jarvis) of the Hamerlsey Carine Amateur Football Club presented George Pullinger with the perpetual HCAFC Award for the highest polling 18s player. It was terrific to hear John speak with passion about his junior playing days at Carine, the family friendly community they’ve built at HCAFC and their intent to launch a women’s team in 2021.
On the evening before, at the Coaches and Team Managers’ ‘thank you’ evening, the nominees for the Carine Junior Club Volunteer of the Year were announced. Congratulations to Adrian Day, Team Manager of two teams (Year 1 Auskick and Year 3 Juniors); Paul Neale, Year 7 Cats Coach; Corey Bellouard, now playing with Subiaco Colts and helping out with the 18s; and Luke Richardson, 18s assistant coach and Events Coordinator. At the Youth Trophy Presentations, Craig Groth, Year 9 Cougars coach, committee member and helper of the Year 9/10 girls team and Alan Brunskill, all round good guy (if there’s a job to do, Alan’s your man), were recognised as finalists. We’re sure you all agree that the extremely worthy winner of this award for 2020 was Jan Cater, Merchandise and Team Managers’ Coordinator and extraordinary volunteer over a number of years - congratulations Jan. The award also has a new name - the Barry Dedman/Phil Cousins award, in honour of two of our Life Members, and we were delighted they could both be there to present the award to Jan.
