Supporting sportsmanship in season 2017

To all parents and friends of the Carine Junior Football Club

After months of preparation it is exciting to know that the start of the 2017 is just days away. I am sure that all of our players; Auskickers, Modified and Open rules combined as well our inaugural girls team are looking forward to the season. It is with that thought in mind that I am writing to you today. We all love to see our children playing sport and competing in the right spirit. It is just as important that the friends and family of these boys and girls support them in the same spirit.

  • Remember that children play sport for their enjoyment, not yours
  • Never ridicule a child for making a mistake or not winning
  • Respect officials' decisions and encourage your children to do the same
  • Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, managers and administrators

As the season commences I remind everyone of these key principles:

  • Use positive encouragement for not only your own children but all players on both teams
  • Support your coach; these people are the key to successful club and should be encouraged
  • Discuss any issues privately with the coach or club
  • Set the example by being a good sport

Above all else be respectful of not only those playing the game but also each other and importantly, game officials including your volunteers and the umpires. The Western Australian Football Commission is coming down very hard on umpire abuse and intimidation and we as a club support this positon. We have all signed a code of conduct and I remind all parents and friends that we are there to enjoy kids sport so let’s make it enjoyable for everyone. Your team coaches and managers have all the relevant rules and regulations and will be responsible for managing behaviour on game day. Ultimately we as a club do not condone poor or disrespectful behavior and ask for your support in holding up the excellent reputation of our Club.

Thank you for your support and best wishes to you and your children for the season ahead.
